Does helping out with the PTO seem like another thing to add to an already too long to do list? Do you work full time? Not able to attend events during school hours? Does the thought of running a committee seem too much? Public speaking not your thing? New to the community and so it feels scary or awkward to “join”?
We hear you.
We know our Jefferson community is full of working families who cherish the free time they have with their children, away from other commitments. Volunteering for the PTO doesn’t mean a commitment to run a program or dedicate hours upon hours to the school… it means helping in whatever way you can, doing things you enjoy and that you are good at. You can make a huge difference by offering your time, energy and talent – even if it’s just for one hour during the school year. You don’t need to be at the school. We have plenty of ways you can help from home or during off hours. You don’t need to run a group or speak publically. And you don’t need to feel like you don’t know anyone. We want to know you! We want you to be an active part of the Jefferson community!
Research has shown that children of involved parents do better in school and on standardized tests, have fewer behavior problems, and are less likely to use drugs or alcohol. Joining and volunteering as a member of the PTO allows you a chance to engage with your child in a different way and demonstrate to them the value you place on their education. It’s a great way to get to know school staff, other parents and make a real difference.
Please consider volunteering with the PTO this year. We look forward to getting to know you and working together to make Jefferson the best it can be!
